The health industry rarely comes across a diet that is vegetarian-friendly, but when it does, we like to grab it and go to town with it. Move over, Mediterranean Diet because your big sister is slowly taking over the fitness world.
The Nordic Diet – developed by people of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Finland – is rich in plant foods, whole grains, fish, good fats and very little amounts of dairy. Developed by food professionals and chefs from the five Nordic countries, this new diet will soon be playing a leader in redefining the traditional eating habits and cuisines of this northern region. The Nordic Diet’s philosophy is based around being simple, affordable and emphasising on sustainable eating.
While the Nordic Diet might seem quite similar to the basic principles of the Mediterranean diet, the main difference is that the former relies on rapeseed (canola) oil and not olive oil (as does the latter). This is solely a reflection of the northern region’s climate, soil and natural produce.
